This has been on my mind for a while--creating my own collection of abstract photographs of consumable products, which have been forced through an effects filter or two, in Photoshop or Painter.  This is the result of my first attempt, worked from an original photo that I took earlier today, and given the Photoshop treatment.

A Digital Construct

Cyberlation was constructed in the digital environment.  It was an attempt at a message that spoke to the nature of us as human beings, and our recently increasing dependence on technology, to both interact with one another and to validate who we are as people. 

The technologies that we once considered to be mere tools, have now become utterly intertwined with our personalities.  We are woven into the complexities of a networked mentality to the point where we would not wish to extricate ourselves from the thickening intercellular substance that binds us to the web, even if we could…

Every now and again I get my wacom pad out just start working without a fixed idea in mind.

I had been thinking about changing my avatar at IamNation for a while and found myself drawing this character.

I like to keep the tv on, sometimes running movies on dvd, while I’m working on projects.  One habit I got into after taking a short art course, a few years ago, was to keep my sketch pad handy at all times—advice from the art teacher—and on evening breaks, I would attempt to sketch characters from the shows that were playing.

The ‘Buffy’ sketch is more of an attempt to quickly capture the ‘feel’ of the character, as she was moving around on the screen.  I can’t remember which episode its from.

The meanderings of the mind can take one to some very strange places.  Clearly, this isn’t necessarily considered to be the most constructive way to spend a day, even a holiday. 

However, being aware that at least 98% of what I do is based on some form of creative endeavor, I suppose I can be forgiven the occasional pause during which a small portion of my consciousness might drift along side the turbulent clouds of human awareness, just long enough to reach out and pluck an idea from the great tree of conceptualization.

My friend again… She is extremely patient.  We went to the same art class for a while, a few years ago, and met up occasionally to sit for each other.  As you can tell, I was still very new to art at the time…
