Coffee and Contemplation... Taking a moment to contemplate the abstract and the conceptual over a cup of coffee and a bran muffin... unfinished thoughts, poetry, prose, music and film reside here... cast your eye, hopefully you'll find some pleasure in what you discover...

One of the tv characters I like to watch, is Jack Bauer, because of his focus as well as his ability to read a situation and act accordingly.  For the most part, he can preempt the decisions and actions of his friends (?) and colleagues, and with his experience, a deep understanding of tactical maneuvers and of human behavior, he can often be one or two steps ahead of anyone who may try to get in his way, especially when he is in mission head-space, (which happens a lot).

I like his, either help me, or get out of my way, attitude.  This understanding of human behavior also gives him an advantage when searching out his enemies.

“Know thyself...”

Okay, this is a scripted television show and so the story lines can easily be manipulated to be in Jack Bauer’s favor at any given time.  However, it does teach us a few things.

Simply put, I suppose you could say that people are always going to do what people are going to do, and, that predictable people are definitely always going to behave predictably.

Fortunately, or unfortunately (whichever way one prefers to see it) when someone is extremely predictable, it gives you an intriguing view point because you have the advantage of knowing in advance exactly how they will act, or react, in a given situation.  No surprises right, or at least, very few.

“I believe I can see the future, cause I repeat the same routine...”

Of course, the Bauer character has his own predictable moments most weeks––the gratuitous torture, i.e., smacking around, choking and shooting of suspects who are already in custody, are clear favorites.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that, your daily routine might feel comfortable, but if it makes you totally predictable to everyone around you, then perhaps it’s worth some attention.
